Program Notes

Dance for String Quartet and Orchestra features the chamber ensemble leading the orchestra through contrapuntal passages and chromatic textures while alternating between two roles: a chamber ensemble performing a concerto grosso (quartet vs. orchestra), and four soloists leading their independent sections (section vs. section).

I excerpted this composition, originally the second movement of my Symphony No.3 in E Minor: Concert in Three Acts, and reduced its instrumentation to make it available to more ensembles and help it engage a wider audience.
