PROGRAM NOTES
Winding Thread models the circuitous path of thought, a cascading series of associations linking contrasting ideas and feelings into an internal monolog. A complex mixture of emotions flows ever forward, building a fragile, interconnected network through the wandering mind before dissipating, leaving only memory.
Winding Thread begins slowly with a simple melody, growing darker and more agitated before reaching a peak. As the darkness subsides, a gentle piano cascade begins a delicate new section in which the solo violin rises to its highest range before giving way to a winding, fluid piano feature. Momentum builds through the cascading piano, leading to a long solo passage of angular fragments and energetic runs, culminating in an abstracted violin cadenza. Finally, gentle, simple melodies return, bringing Winding Thread to a quiet and introspective conclusion.
